I'm not sure if you know all the many benefits of Omega-3. But, foods that are high in Omega-3 help to increase mood, fight against depression, provide antioxidants, decrease inflammation and may actually increase life expectancy. It is heart healthy & brain healthy. With all these benefits, why not get the most out of your meals by cooking with foods high in Omega-3's.
If you love Seafood, why not try this dish? It is Smoked Oysters & Salmon, with Gluten-Free Pasta and Broccoli. I love this recipe because it's quick, easy & cheap to make.
- 4 Cups of cooked Brown Rice Pasta (Trader Joe's Brand)
- 1 1/2 Cups of Fresh Broccoli
- 1 Can of Pink Salmon
- 3/4 Can of Smoked Oysters (Bold Smoked Taste)
- 1/2 cup Olive Oil (Have a little on the side to drizzle over completed dish)
- 3 tablespoons of Ground Flax Meal
- Juice from 1/2 a Lemon
- Garlic Salt (Season to taste)
- Pepper (Season to taste)
1) First boil Brown Rice Pasta and Broccoli in boiling water for 7-10 minutes (Time varies upon pasta consistency).
2) Drain hot Pasta & put right back into pot (Do not rinse with Cold water)
3) Mix in Olive Oil, Pink Salmon, Smoked Oysters & Lemon till all Brown Rice Pasta is covered
4) Mix in Ground Flax Meal
5) Add Garlic Salt & Pepper (Season to Liking)
6) Plate pasta & drizzle Olive Oil over the top!
In Less than 15 minutes you have a hearty, healthy dish for 4!! Enjoy! See if you don't feel better after eating it!!!
Michael Clarke Duncan's Death Raises Questions About Crash Diets - Balance & Personalized Meal Plans Needed

Sources state that Michael Clarke Duncan started a crash diet a couple of years earlier to lose his belly after viewing the screening of The Scorpion King movie. Duncan lost 90 pounds and slimmed his frame down but he also suffered a massive heart attack in July, three months before his death on September 3, 2012. Duncan’s crash diet included a Low-fat Vegetarian diet and kickboxing.
While we may not know the exact causes of Duncan’s death what we can ask is how can a man living a healthy ‘Low-fat Vegetarian Diet’ die from a heart attack? Heart attacks are usually caused by high cholesterol levels, high blood pressure and/or cardiovascular diseases sometimes associated with poor diet or consumption of meat.
While I am an advocate of eating your fruits, vegetables and eating organic I also tend to believe that not all diets or meal plans are right for everyone. Dr. D’Adamo advocates a meal plan or diet based upon blood type and ancestral heritage. For instance “Red meat, Salt & Vegetables” are most beneficial for blood type O while, “Red Meat, Salt & Vegetables”are least beneficial for A blood types. He also discusses that people should stick to foods first originated in their ancestral lands. So if rice was prevalent and grown in places like Asia or Africa, those whose ancestors are from Asia or Africa should eat such foods. Furthermore, any Low-Fat diet may be dangerous if not done right. For example, our brain is made up of necessary fat thus, the positive effects of Omega-3 Fish Oil on brain health is necessary.
Personally, I am of African & Filipina heritage and I had a short stint of being Vegan for a couple of months. However, I did not find it sufficed for life as a Graduate Student, New Yorker and dancer. Not to mention my skin was unclear and I was always tired and hungry (and I didn't lose weight). Thankfully, I came upon D’Adamo studies and through the journey realized how necessary a diet combined with protein from meat source was for my body and benefited my nutritional fitness needs. However, what I did find was that gluten had a negative effect on my body. So now I am gluten-free.
So what I am advocating is not all diets, fad or not are for everyone because of our beautiful differences that contribute to who we are. Those differences of meal plans should include eating differently, through sustainable, clean and/or organic agriculture. Finally, when following a new meal plan please get lab work done with your doctor to check blood, and most importantly listen to your body. The most important thing in having a healthy lifestyle is balance. Do not shock your system by crash dieting or using diet pills. I do not feel losing weight is a quick and easy task; in fact that would be cheating and it may have repercussions in which gaining weight back is a unhealthy occurrence. In fact I have managed to come to my ideal weight without causing great stress on my body. I am still able to enjoy sweets, treats and meats. Remember, this may not be the plan for you.

There are three Vitamins & Supplements that you need right now. Why Vitamins & Supplements? Well, like Centrum A-Z states there are about 26 Essential Vitamins that we need on a daily basis. While, we should be getting our Vitamins & Supplements from the foods we eat, how many can attest to eating a balanced diet with rainbow fruits and veggies, whole grain, healthy fats and balanced proteins? Okay, so me neither. Not to mention our diets are consumed with 80 % - 90% cooked products; thus most of the nutrients are lost in the cooking process. Further, a lot of what we eat can cause inflammation in our bodies and brains. Even if you are very conscientious about your diet there are still nutrients like Copper and Selenium that you can only attain from certain foods or situations. So what do we do to stop this harmful cycle?

1) Take a Multi-Vitamin:

These little live bugs are great. Since I have been taking Probiotics I can honestly say I’ve only had a cold twice in three to four years. Additionally, I do not know the last time I took a flu shot. These little suckers are the live cultures you find in yogurt, but instead of eating yogurt for breakfast, lunch and dinner you can just take some of these and be good to go. They help strengthen the Immune System and balance the digestive track. Since, Omega-3 reduces inflammation in the body it can also assist in heart health because the veins that lead to your heart are more readily open without inflammation.
I find that when I take these Vitamins and Supplements my cravings disappear and I am in a state of balance.

Did you know that all those crunches you are doing may be making your stomach stick out as opposed to getting flat abs? Yes, it's true. If you can't see your abs right now, "Don't do Crunches or Sit-ups!"
Our abs are made of six muscles which each and every person has. So the issue is not developing them, the issue is being able to see them. The way to flatten your abs so you can see your muscles is to remove the fat covering them.
Our stomachs are bloated, filled with toxins, water weight gain and fat; and our abs are hidden behind this. So what are we to do? The key to getting flat abs is to continuously detox our bodies, get rid of waste on a consistent basis and help our bodies not store fat.
How do we do that you ask? Well, let me share five tips to "Getting Flat Abs Without Getting On The Floor:
1. Take Probiotics:
Probiotics are the live cultures found in Yogurt, which help to keep our colon and digestive system healthy. Taking probiotics everyday will help to keep you regular.

When you lift weights your whole body has to focus on lifting the weight so your core is engaged, your legs are engaged, your whole body. I would focus on doing squats with weights and doing the Arm workout I have featured on my blog.
4. Add Protein Supplement & Watch Portions:
Protein is a great thing. It helps to build muscle, which helps to reduce and fight fat. The more muscle you create the more your body is working to reduce the fat in your body. So by incorporating a protein supplement to your meal plan the more muscle your body is creating. Finally, everyone no matter how skinny has a belly from eating. So if you watch your portion sizes, by eating five to six small meals over the course of the day the more you can reduce how much your belly sticks out. Additionally, you can train your body to eat less and feel fuller in two days? If you watch your portion sizes and eat smaller meals over two days your brain and body will react and feel fuller faster on the third day. 5. Hula-Hoop as Cardio:
Cardio slims your body down which works at decreasing fat and building up your heart. One of my favorite methods of cardio is Hula-Hoop. It's fun, you can watch TV or listen to music and it is focused on your core. Start off with doing 20 mins and work your way up to an hour. You'll feel it in your abs the next day.
Okay, that's all there is to start working at those flat abs. Don't waste your time doing crunches if there is one ab exercise I suggest it the plank. You can take up ab workouts once you get a flat tummy. Hope this helps, happy slimming.

Are you stressed? Fatigued? Tired? Low on Energy? Hungry? Having a hard time losing weight?
All these symptoms could be associated to not getting enough sleep. Sleep is an important part of balance for your body. Getting a good nights rest is important for physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health.
Effects of Sleeplessness:
1) Causes Fat Around Mid-Section: A certain hormone called Cortisol heightens through lack of sleep, this certain hormone is directly related to fat centered around your waist, which is the most dangerous place to have excess fat.
2) Causes Mental Cloudiness: A lack of sleep can mentally affect you through headaches, stress and mental cloudiness. You know driving without getting enough sleep can actually be just as dangerous as driving while drunk. Many accidents can be associated with people falling asleep at the wheel.
3) Can cause emotional stress: Lack of good sleep can cause you emotional stress, because you don't have the patience you need throughout the day to make wise decisions. Over a period of time lack of sleep causes stress in the brain which causes inflamation in the brain that can lead to stroke or other hazardous diseases.
4) All these symptoms can affect you spiritually: Anyone who hasn't had enough sleep knows how hard it is to get through the day. For instance your tired, your extremely hungry because your body is looking for energy and you are looking forward to getting back in the bed. So your devotional time or prayer life could suffer from lack of sleep.
So what can you do to get a better nights sleep? Let me give you some Sleep tips:
1) Turn Electronics off or down: The light-emitting glow from cell phones, TV's, computers and etc. can suppress melatonin, the sleep hormone.
2) Dim lights a couple hours before bed: Your body will be able to start creating melatonin before bed.
3) Use sunglasses: So your in a house full of roommates who have all the lights on? However, you need to get to bed; so to dim the lights in a fully lit room, wear sunglasses. You may look crazy but at least you'll get your beauty rest.
4) Sleep in Complete Darkness: Any amount of light can disrupt a good nights sleep, so try not to have a night light or light slipping under the door because this can disrupt your sleep.
5) Decrease the amount of liquids you consume: If you drink something close to bedtime you'll most likely have to "twinkle" before you fully wake, which can been such a bother. If you have to wake up to use the restroom try to walk and use the bathroom in the dark, because at least melatonin- the sleep hormone- won't be affected. Watch out for that wall!
6) Say your prayers: Constantly thinking or worrying? Give matters over to God in prayer before going to sleep and leave it at that.
7) Shoot to get 6-8 hours of Sleep: While this may be difficult, it is really important.
Sleep between 10pm - 2am: The time you sleep matters. Our bodies cells & immune system restore themselves between 10pm - 2am every night, so getting to sleep before 2am will ensure you don't catch a cold the next day.

Yummy Gluten-Free Pancakes, Vegan, Egg-Free & Dairy Free. They are so yummy and delicious. Everyone will be surprised they are Gluten-Free & Vegan. Also they are so easy to make. This recipe makes about 8-9 waffles, depending on how big you make them. They are great. Make them today.
1 1/4 cups All-Purpose Gluten-Free Flour Blend
2 tablespoons white sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt (I like Salt that has Iodine in it.)
1 1/4 cups Vanilla Almond Milk
1 tablespoon oil
1/3 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
1/2 teaspoon of Almond Extract
1. Mix the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt into a large bowl. Whisk the Almond Milk, oil, vanilla extract and Almond Extract together in a small bowl. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients, and pour in the wet. Stir just until blended; mixture will be lumpy.
2. Heat a lightly oiled griddle over medium-high heat. Make sure you lower heat as you add more pancakes to griddle/pan because the pancakes will start cooking faster. Pour batter by large spoonfuls onto the griddle, and cook until bubbles form and the edges are dry. Flip, and cook until browned on the other side. Repeat with remaining batter. There is a recipe here to make your own All-Purpose Gluten-free pancake flour mix.

On March 14th, 2012 I had a beautiful experience,a modern day miracle. I had been suffering from Cancer since 1997-2002 and then Parkinson’s disease appeared around November 20, 2001. I was devastated. It was too much to handle at one time. I couldn’t believe how an athletic body could all of the sudden become diseased or sickly. But it did, and it was happening to me. My doctors came up with a medication program, a number of different drugs to treat my condition. It was a combination of two to three different drugs to arrest and contain the Parkinson’s disease. Parkinson’s was the diagnosis due to a tremoring of my hands, a stuttering of speech and other traditional symptoms. Then, in the fall of 2005, I started a new and stronger drug. I stayed on that drug at low dosages at first, then within seven years, in 2012, the outcome of the drug was super intense. I was having trouble walking without lurching forward. So the neurologist gave me the highest possible dosage of those pills and I felt depressed. All the while, I had been taking supplements all along the way, Vitamin D,Vitamin E and other non-prescription, natural supplements.
On March 14th 2012 my daughters told me about "Letting Go and Letting God" lead me and guide me to give up the drugs. The church that they were attending, TheTabernacle of David in Lansing, MI was engaged in a 21 day fast and my daughters advised me to fast and pray the last three days with them and this church. My second daughter Talitha said, “She’s praying for me and she mentioned how God had been working in the church. My youngest daughter, Danielle typed up a diet for me right away. And they said, “Do not take your drugs, just fast and pray with the church.” And in three days, three short days “My body turned around.” I became proactive. The prayer, fasting and the special diet programming and supplements as given to me by my youngest daughter would put my body into a different situation--a body dependent on God and not on drugs. On the first day of the fast my body completely turned around. I felt positive effects but I also had intense painful withdrawal. That night I was shaking tremendously and uncontrollably, I was sweating. My body was like a battleground. My bedding was like a pool, it was soaked with perspiration. I was crying within my spirit and pleading for God to help me. My wife tried to console me but it was so difficult on her. So she just watched and prayed, laying hands on me and just pleading with God.
The next night was almost as bad, I could feel the presence of the Lord coming through like the chopper making his way through the midst to save a trapped and wounded soldier. The third night was a tremendous victory!!! I knew God had delivered me from the addiction to prescription drugs. I thank God. I’m continuing with my counselor, my youngest daughter, Danielle, she’s guiding me through the word. I could not have made it without my daughters. I encourage you to seek out therapist who are Godly-inspired and whose faith can penetrate the barriers of disbelief.
